Armenian judicial watchdog head ready to be vetted first
Chairman of Armenia’s Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Ruben Vardazaryan expressed readiness to undergo mandatory vetting first.
“I have repeatedly insisted on having all the members of the Supreme Judicial Council undergo that integrity assessing process. I think that this process should start with me as the SJC chairman to be followed by members and judges of the council,” he told a news conference on Wednesday.
Vardazaryan, however, could not unveil the specific timeframes for the launch of the process, adding the matter is under discussion at the moment.
"But I'm sure it will start soon,” the chairman said.
Separately, he hailed the judicial reform program as ‘a pretty ambitious strategy.”
“If all the stakeholders are consistent and try to implement the provisions of the strategy step by step, then we will have a good and reliable judicial system in a short period of time,” he said.
