Armenian army chief dismisses reports he has tense relationship with defense minister
Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Artak Davtyan on Wednesday refuted media reports alleging he has tense relationship with Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan.
Speaking at a briefing, he said the chief of General Staff is subordinated to the defense minister and fulfils the minister’s orders.
“I’m not aware of any tension, I can’t say anything else,” he said.
Davtyan said he has no disagreements with Davit Tonoyan over any issue.
“There is a working procedure: before making a decision, everyone presents their opinions and proposals, and after adopting the decision we all pass to its implementation, each of us focusing on our part. We don’t have disagreements over any issue,” he stressed.
Addressing talks about his possible replacement by his first deputy Onik Gasparyan, Davtyan said in the event of his dismissal or resignation Gasparyan’s candidacy may naturally be considered first.
“No one serves until the end of his life, there are set terms,” he said.
Separately, the army chief reflected on advancing the positions in Armenia’s northeastern border, adding the army forces fulfil their tasks and promised to provide detailed information to the public when the time comes.
