Artsakh observes pre-election silence ahead of local elections
The Republic of Artsakh is observing pre-election silence on Saturday ahead of the local elections slated for Sunday, September 8. Under the country’s Electoral Code pre-election campaigning and political advertising are banned the day before the vote. On the Day of Silence, candidates are not allowed to hold rallies, meetings or distribute leaflets.
As data by Central Electoral Commission suggest, 416 candidates will compete for posts of community heads and 1401 candidates run for seats at Council of Elders in 228 communities of Artsakh.
The voters will elect also heads of communities in capital Stepanakert, Shushi, Askeran, Martakert, Martuni, Qshatagh and Karvachar towns.
