Armenian Foreign Ministry spox hails democratic elections in Artsakh
Since 1991, Artsakh has hosted elections regularly as an exercise of its people’ rights, Armenian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Anna Naghdalyan told reporters on Friday, adding the elections were held in full compliance with democratic standards, as confirmed by observers.
Her comments came in response to the comments of Ukraine and Georgia on the local-self government elections held in Artsakh on 8 September.
“Over 28 years, Artsakh has gained good experience in holding democratic elections, which once again comes to show the seriousness and ability of Artsakh to build democratic institutions and guarantee the free expression of people’s will. In this regard, I want to state that Artsakh can share its experience if necessary,” the spokesperson said.
Naghdalyan also referred to the statement of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs that they recognize the role of the people of Artsakh in deciding their future.
"The realization of human rights is not conditioned by the status of residence, and the non-recognition of human rights in no way restricts their realization," she said.
