Ex-President Kocharyan’s supporters stage a sit-in outside the Yerevan court
The supporters of Armenian second President Robert Kocharyan who is charged with overthrowing the constitutional order of the country and is currently held in custody, started on Tuesday a sit-in for indefinite period outside the Yerevan first instance court.
The move came after the Court rejected the motion brought by Kocharyan’s lawyers to free the former president and end his prosecution, citing the Constitutional Court’s September 4 decision that acknowledged the arrest of the president was ‘unconstitutional’ in the light of the provision of immunity of high-level officials from prosecution.
“Since Judge Danibekyan chose the way of placing the truth under her own ambitions and career, decided not to resist the lawlessness and contributed to downgrading the judicial system totally controlled by the powers, we, the supporters of Robert Kocharyan, declare sit-in strike for an indefinite period,” one of the organizers told reporters.
