French Armenian actor Charles Gérard dies aged 96
French actor and director of Armenian origin Charles Gérard died in Paris on Thursday, September 19, at the age of 96, Le Monde reported.
Born Gérard Adjémian on December 1, 1926 to Armenian parents, the actor appeared in more than 50 films. He was one of the favorite actors of filmmaker Claude Lelouch, starring in 18 of his films.
He was a close friend of Jean-Paul Belmondo for over 60 years. In 2013, the two appeared in the film Les Bandits Manchots directed by Lelouch.
Gérard was recognizable by his singular nose – crushed by Jean-Paul Belmondo during their first meeting on a boxing ring in 1948.
