Media reports: Russia considers termination of the railway operation contract in Armenia
Russia’s South Caucasus Railways company which is the rail operator of Armenia is considering plans to terminate the contract with Armenian leadership over railway operation. As news portal RTVI cites sources familiar with the ongoing talks between Armenia and Russia, the reason for the decision is the alleged obstacles created for the Russian subsidiary by Armenian leadership.
It reminds that relations between the Russian Railways and the Armenian leadership were strained following the searches and criminal case launched in 2018 in the Armenian subsidiary.
In response to an enquiry, the Russian Railways have neither confirmed nor denied the reports.
Meanwhile at a meeting with Russian Railways team held on September 18, the first vice-president of the company Alexander Misharin had pointed to the importance of working in the Armenian market, stressing the South Caucasus Railways remains one of the biggest employers operating in Armenia.
