Aronian draws in the first game of quarterfinals at World Cup 2019
Armenian grandmaster Levon Aronian played draw on Friday with a Vietnamese chess player Lê Quang Liêm in the first game of the quarterfinals of World Cup chess championship in Khanty Mansiysk, Russia. As the National Olympic Committee reports, the second game is scheduled for September 21.
To remind, two other representatives of Armenia Robert Hovhannisyan and Armenian champion Arman Pashikyan dropped out of the competition in the first stage, while Sergey Movsesyan lost to Ding Liren of China in the second round.
Chess World Cup 2019 is a 128-player single-elimination chess tournament underway in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia from 9 September to 4 October 2019.The finalists of the tournament will qualify for the Candidates Tournament for the World Chess Championship 2020.
