Kocharyan supporters holding sit-in for third day
The sit-in being staged by supporters of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan outside a Yerevan court for an indefinite period entered its third day on Monday, one of the participants Aram Manukyan said on Facebook.
The move came after the Yerevan first instance court rejected the motion filed by Kocharyan’s lawyers to free the former president and end his prosecution, citing the Constitutional Court’s September 4 ruling that an article of the Criminal Procedure Code used against Kocharyan is ‘unconstitutional’ in the light of the provision of immunity of current and former high-level officials from prosecution.
“We reaffirm the continuity of our struggle and will apply the tools available to us by law to restore justice in our country,” Manukyan said, sharing a photo with other protesters.
“I think that the processes against Robert Kocharyan include not only legal and political manifestations, but they are also directly linked to the preservation of our statehood.
“We are thankful to Armenian citizens for joining and supporting the struggle,” he said.
