Armenia’s former security chief slams Pashinyan for ‘populism’
Former Director of Armenia’s National Security Service Artur Vanetsyan strongly criticized Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s remarks on his resignation letter as ‘populism’.
At a news conference in New York on Monday, the Armenian PM blamed Vanetsyan for “disrespectful attitude” towards the commander-chief of the armed forces.
“At a news conference in New York, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan once again spoke about things he has little understanding of. Though after my resignation he still continues sending people to me with a request that I keep silent for a while until the situation calms down, now I see he is breaching the arrangements again, making vague populist statements factually about nothing,” the ex-security chief told Hraparak.am.
“Obviously, Nikol Pashinyan, eager to make a short-term impact on the public opinion, does not think again about the consequences of his statements. Can you imagine if I suddenly started taking without thinking about the consequences,” Vanetsyan said.
Vanetsyan expressed confidence everyone who closely read the statement announcing his resignation clearly understood its message
“So, I strongly believe the time will show who will find himself in the garbage bump of history,” he added.
According to the news agency, he is expected to unveil his plans in the near future.
Vanetsyan stepped down as National Security Service Director on 16 September.
