Putin held meeting with the wife of former president Robert Kocharyan in Yerevan
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who visited Armenia on October 1 to attend the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting, held a meeting on Tuesday evening with Bella Kocharyan, the wife of Armenia’s former president Robert Kocharyan currently held in custody.
As the head of ex-President’s Office Victor Soghomonyan told Yerevan Today news outlet, the meeting took place at Russian Embassy in Yerevan. Soghomonyan refused to provide other details from the meeting.
To note, Robert Kocharyan faces charges of overthrowing the constitutional order during the post-electoral events in March 1-2, 2008. The ex-president is currently in custody pending trial. Kocharyan and his defense team strongly deny the charges and call the criminal prosecution “politically motivated”.
