Armenia’s MFA comments on Sergey Lavrov’s recent remarks on NK peace process
“Armenia remains committed to the OSCE Minsk Group format whose balanced and impartial position in the peaceful settlement of the conflict is the guarantee of unity among co-chairing countries. At the same time, we deem it important for the mediators to avoid one-sided and selective assessments,” Armenian foreign ministry spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan stated on Thursday, commenting on the recent remarks by Russian FM Sergey Lavrov.
To remind, , Lavrov had earlier said that certain statements from conflicting sides to not contribute to formation of the atmosphere conductive to reviving the political process. Lavrov answer had come in reference to one of Armenia’s PM’s remarks.
In Naghdalyan’s words, Armenia reiterates its position which is enshrined in the MFA’s August 6 statement. “The position of the Armenian side is reflected in all public speeches of the RA Prime Minister, including in the UN General Assembly remarks on September 24 that reiterated Armenia’s formula to reach peace and compromise,” Naghdalyan said.
“In this context we consider unacceptable the inability of Azerbaijan to publicly express commitment to scenarios of conflict solutions that would be acceptable for peoples of Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani claims unilaterally predetermining the results of talks that the conflict must be settled exclusively through consideration of its territorial integrity do not contribute to the formation of a respective atmosphere to promote the peace process,” Naghdalyan added.
