ECHR to consider Constitutional Court’s petition on Kocharyan case
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has accepted for consideration a petition of Armenia’s Constitutional Court requesting an advisory opinion over the criminal case involving Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, the court said in a statement on Thursday.
The petition was filed to the court based on the applications of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction and Robert Kocharyan himself.
Earlier on 18 July, the court said it was seeking advice from the European Court of Human Rights and the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe over the case on determining the compliance of Article 300.1 of the Criminal Code, which penalizes the overthrowing of the constitutional order, with the Constitution of Armenia.
