Constitutional Court chairman opts out of parliamentary debates on his replacement
Chairman of Armenia’s Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan will not take party in parliamentary debates on termination of his powers.
Lawmakers are set to debate a draft decision petitioning the Constitutional Court members to replace Tovmasyan at a sitting on Thursday.
The decision was drafted by the ruling My Step faction last month.
“The process of terminating my powers as a judge of the Constitutional Court launched by the My Step faction of the National Assembly has, in fact, a political and subjective orientation,” Tovmasyan said in a statement on Facebook.
Therefore, Tovmasyan said he does not consider ‘expedient’ his participation in the parliamentary debates on the matter.
