Azerbaijan supports Turkey’s military offensive in Syria
Azerbaijan on Friday voiced support for Turkey's military operation dubbed "Operation Peace Spring" in northern Syria.
In a statement by the the country's Foreign Ministry, Baku said it "strongly condemns all forms and manifestations of terrorism and supports the efforts of the international community in the fight against terrorism," Anadolu Agency reported.
It added that Azerbaijan was "confident" that Turkey's operation east of the Euphrates River would serve to "eliminate the terror risks and ensure the return of Syrian refugees to their homes, as well as resolve humanitarian issues and provide peace and stability within the territorial integrity of Syria."
Turkey launched a military operation against Kurdish positions in northeast Syria on Wednesday, just days after US troops pulled out of the area.
Ankara says the offensive - which began with air raids on Tuesday - is aimed at removing Kurdish-led forces from the border area and creating a "safe zone" where millions of Syrian refugees can be resettled.
