Wounded Armenian police officer in stable condition
The Armenian police officer who was wounded in Yerevan’s Liberty Square on Tuesday night is in stable condition, a neurosurgeon at the Saint Gregory the Illuminator Medical Center, Alexander Varosyan told reporters on Wednesday.
The officer, identified as A. Hakobyan, 25, was taken to hospital with a bleeding head injury at around 4am and was diagnosed with a concussion and a fracture in the upper part of his head.
The doctor said the policeman is under their supervision and is expected to be discharged in two to three days.
Hakobyan was hit in the head with a gun, while his fellow Tigran Arakelyan was shot dead by one of the two persons who they had been chasing and had caught eventually.
The suspect and his accomplice, who appear to be brothers, have been taken into custody.
Authorities said an investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
