Two arrested in murder of police officer in Armenian capital
Two suspects have been arrested in the murder of a police officer in the Armenian capital, the head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Armenian Police, Ashot Aharonyan said in a Facebook post.
The officer, identified as Tigran Arakelyan, was shot dead, while his fellow was hit in the head with a gun by the two persons in downtown Yerevan on Tuesday night after the servicemen managed to catch them during a chase.
The two had fled upon seeing the police officers near the entrance of the Victory Park.
A criminal case has been opened under Article 238.1 (theft or extortion of firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices), Article 316.2 (resistance to the representative of the authorities while in the line of duty) and Article 104.1 (murder) of the country’s Criminal Code.
An investigation into the details of the incident is underway.
