Minister reveals details of house collapse in Armenian town
Armenia’s Minister of Emergency Situations Feliks Tsolakyan revealed details of the collapse of a residential building in Kapan, a town in Armenia’s Syunik Province, in the wake of a landslide on Thursday.
One fire and rescue squad of the ministry’s Regional Rescue Department was dispatched to the scene after emergency responders received a report at around 9am. According to the report, there were people trapped inside the building.
Speaking at a government meeting, the minster said the two-storey building covered by the landslide resembled a hut where an elderly couple live.
According him, on-site work is underway at the moment.
“I can’t say whether these people are alive or not, we will find it out after the completion of the work,” Tsolakyan said, adding the cleaning work is being carried out with a tractor since the landslide is moving and the risks remain high.
