Armenia elected as new member of the UN Human Rights Council
Armenia won a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council with 144 votes in favor in the 193-member General Assembly. In the Eastern Europe group Armenia and Poland secured their seats, leaving behind Moldova.
“This comes to demonstrate the trust of the international community in our country, especially in the sphere of the human rights. Congratulations to all!” PM Pashinyan posted on Facebook, following the vote.
To note, the 193-member General Assembly elects 14 members to the 47-member Human Rights Council for three-year terms starting January 1. Under its rules, seats are allocated to regions to ensure geographical representation.
