Constitutional Court publishes its decision on NA appeal to revoke the powers of CC President
The Constitutional Court of Armenia (CC) has published the decision on rejecting the Armenian parliament ‘s appeal to suspend the powers of the President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan. The appeal was rejected by the judges of the Court on October 14 session.
To remind, the country’s the National Assembly earlier voted to revoke the powers of the President of the Constitutional Court,. Supporters of the vote claim that Tovmasyan is compromised due to his connections with Armenia’s former powers, while critics say that the government is meddling with the independence of the judiciary.
Tovmasyan himself named the move initiated by the ruling “My Step” faction as pursuing a “political and subjective goal” and declined to participate in the discussion of the draft of the decision on suspending the powers in the parliament.
