Authorities studying causes of tailings dam accident in Armenia
The accident of the Artsvanik Tailings Dam owned by the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine has been eliminated, the Environmental Protection and Mining Inspection Body said in a statement on Thurday.
The accident occurred on Thursday morning. As a result of the damage of the tailings dam located in Syunik Province wastewaters have flown into Voghji River.
Upon the instruction of the inspection body’s head, Vigen Avetisyan the employees of the local office of the agency carried out an examination of the dam and took samples of the contaminated water.
The company was instructed to eliminate the consequences of the accident.
Authorities are investigating the causes of the damage.
The damage caused to the environment will be measured, the statement added.
