Armenia’s Special Investigative Service receives no political orders, head claims
The Special Investigative Service (SIS) of Armenia is guided only by law, SIS Head Sasun Khachatryan told reporters on Monday.
He stressed the law-enforcement agency does not receive any political orders and will not fulfil them should they receive one.
Khachatryan’s comments came in response to a question about whether SIS had received political orders related to Constitutional Court Chairman Hrayr Tovmasyan and whether Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's public statements could have possibly influenced the work of the agency.
He noted Armenia’s former Prosecutor General and MP Gevorg Kostanyan had promised to show up to the Special Investigation Service early next month.
In a statement earlier in September SIS said charges had been brought against former Police Chief Alik Sargsyan as part of the criminal investigation into March 2008 post-election unrest. Kostanyan was also referred to in the statement.
