Armenian, Azerbaijani FMs to hold fresh talks on Karabakh in Bratislava: media
The Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers will hold a new round of talks on the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict in Bratislava in the near future under the mediation of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Slovakia’s Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajčák told the Voice of America’s Armenian service.
“I am looking forward to hosting the two foreign ministers in Bratislava in the near future," the official said.
Lajčák also praised the efforts of the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders to resolve the conflict. According to him, we have seen positive signs this year, a dialogue between the leaders of the two countries and a dialogue at ministerial level. Meanwhile, he claimed, there were also worrying incidents on the contact line that led to fatalities, “but now the situation seems to be stable.”
OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger told the Voice of America, for his part, that the Minsk Group mediators continue to be actively involved in the negotiations, but a breakthrough in the peace talks can be achieved first of all in the event of a political decision by the heads of state.
He noted that the positive dynamics that they saw during the September meeting in Dushanbe have not yet been transformed into real progress in the settlement of the Karabakh conflict.
