Court rules to keep Armenia’s former tax chief in custody
Former Chairman of Armenia’s State Revenue Committee Gagik Khachatryan will remain in custody, his lawyer Yerem Sargsyan told reporters on Thursday.
The attorney said a Yerevan court turned down the defense motion to release their client on bail and satisfied a motion filed by the investigator to extend his arrest for two months.
Sargsyan said that the decision was not unexpected for them, adding he will elaborate on the court ruling after familiarizing himself with the arguments presented by it.
The lawyer also unveiled their intention to appeal the ruling to a higher court.
Gagik Khachatryan is charged with abusing his powers and wasting large amounts of public funds while in office. He was arrested in August 2019.
