European Championship: Armenian chess teams start with victories
The Armenian chess teams have started with victories the European Team Chess Championship being held in Batumi, Georgia.
The Armenian men’s team beat Norway 3.5-0.5. Gabriel Sargsyan, Hayk Martirosyan and Arman Pashikyan celebrated victories, while Hrant Melkumyan tied the game, the National Olympic Committee's press service reported.
The Armenian women’s team gained advantage over Finland 3.5-0. Siranush Ghukasyan, Maria Gevorgyan and Anna Sargsyan won their games, while Lilit Mkrtchyan drew her game.
The Armenian teams performed without their leading players Levon Aronyan and Elina Danielyan.
In the second round the men’s team will face Croatia and the women’s team’s rival will be France.
