European C'ships: Armenian lifters win 11 medals in combine events
Armenian weightlifters have conquered a combined total of 11 medals in the European U20 and U23 Weightlifting Championships held in Bucharest, Romania on 17-27 October.
In the U20 event, Liana Gyurjyan (81 kg), Karen Avagyan (89 kg), Arpine Dalalyan (+87 kg) and Varazdat Lalayan (+109 kg) won gold, Ara Aghanyan (89 kg) took silver, while Rafik Harutyunyan (81 kg) claimed bronze.
Monte Mkhitaryan (55kg) won a small gold medal in the snatch event to take the fifth place in the championship. Karen Margaryan (81 kg) and Yasha Minasyan (102 kg) won small bronze medals. Margaryan took the third place in the snatch and Minasyan in the clean and jerk.
In the U23 event, Hakob Mkrtchyan (89 kg), Samvel Gasparyan (102 kg) and Simon Martirosyan (+109 kg) were crowned European Champions. Tatev Hakobyan (87 kg) won silver, while David Hovhannisyan (89 kg) conquered a bronze medal.
The Armenian team included 21 weightlifters.
