Former Armenian parliament speaker denies charges as ‘illegal’
Former Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Ara Babloyan was charged with ‘usurpation of power’ on Monday as part of an investigation into Hrayr Tovmasyan’s appointment as the Constitutional Court chairman.
A signature bond not to leave the country was imposed as a measure of restraint against him.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, Babloyan strongly denied the charges. “I have stated that the accusations are illegal. Everything I did was in accordance with the constitution and laws,” he said.
