Armenian authorities probing case involving HIV-affected child
Armenian authorities are probing how a child was infected with HIV.
In a statement on Thursday, the Investigative Committee said on 16 October police received an appeal from a citizen addressed to the attorney general according to which their underage granddaughter received outpatient treatment at the Arabkir Medical Center from mid-August untill 11 October. During the treatment she was tested positive for HIV.
The child’s family claims she did not have the disease before being admitted to the hospital.
The agency says that the child’s parents were tested negative for HIV.
A criminal case has been launched into criminal transmission of HIV under Article 123.3 (Point 2) of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
Preliminary probe is underway.
