179.5 billion drams to be allocated for education, science, culture and sport in Armenia in 2020
A total of 179.5 billion drams are set to be allocated to the Armenian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport in 2020 under the draft state budget, Finance Minister Atom Janjughazyan told a parliamentary debate on Thursday.
According to the minister, the amount includes funds needed to maintain the apparatus – 2.2 billion drams.
The proposed budgetary allocations for the education sector amount to 145 billion drams, which is 20 billion drams more than the 2019 funds. The draft document envisages 15.2 billion drams spending for science, while the culture expenses for 2020 have slightly dropped from the past year to 12.2 billion drams, Janjughazyan said.
“It is planned to allocate 4 billion for sports and youth affairs in 2020,” he said.
Asked whether the government will manage to implement its ‘ambitious programs’ with the funds envisaged by the draft state budget, the minister said: “Given the opportunities and limitations, it has been estimated that this amount of allocations will meet our needs in this sector.”
