Three kangaroos of Yerevan Zoo mauled to death by stray dogs
Three kangaroos have been mauled to death by around 6 stray dogs at the Yerevan Zoo in the early hours on Thursday.
In a statement, the zoo said that the dogs entered the area of the zoo most probably from Nor Nork District at around 5am.
The zoo personnel contacted an organization dealing with stray dogs to neutralize the animals and to remove them from the zoo territory.
The statement said a group of zoologists and veterinarians attempted to save the kangaroos but failed.
The kangaroos were donated to the Yerevan Zoo from Moldova’s Chisinau Zoo in 2018.
The Yerevan Zoo said this is the third incident involving street dog attacks in the zoo since 2011.
According to the statement, the incident happened due to the lack of barriers around its entire territory, which allows stray dogs and other animals to easily enter and exit the zoo territory. However, it noted, the Yerevan Municipality has already launched construction to install fences around the zoo.
Panorama.am could not reach the Yerevan Zoo to get answers to such questions about how the dogs managed to enter the cage of kangaroos, why the zookeepers failed to foil the attack or whether they didn’t year any sounds, etc., as well as to receive the pictures of ravished animals to prove the attack to our readers, without publishing them.
