Kocharyan to remain under arrest
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction of Shengavit District on Thursday ruled that Armenia’s former President Robert Kocharian will remain in custody pending the outcome of his trial.
Presiding judge Anna Danibekyan denied a motion filed by the ex-president’s lawyers on 5 November to release him on bail.
Today’s court hearing was postponed. The next hearing is scheduled for 12 November.
According to the indictment, Kocharyan is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 1-2, 2008 post-election unrest in Yerevan, abusing his powers and taking a bribe of large amount during his tenure from 1998 to 2008.
