Kocharyan’s son slams 'unlawful' court ruling to keep ex-president under arrest
Levon Kocharyan, the son of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, decried the court ruling to keep his father in custody as ‘unlawful.’
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction of Shengavit District upheld on Thursday the former president’s arrest, denying a defense motion to release him on bail.
“I think it has long been clear that expecting justice from judge Anna Danibekyan would be naive. It’s yet another unlawful decision,” Levon Kocharyan told reporters after the court hearing.
Thursday’s hearing was postponed until 12 November.
According to the indictment, Kocharyan is charged with overthrowing Armenia’s constitutional order during the March 1-2, 2008 post-election unrest in Yerevan, abusing his powers and taking a bribe of large amount during his tenure from 1998 to 2008.
