ARF Youth Union members continue protesting education minister
Members of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) Youth Union of Armenia who launched a sit-in on Thursday spent the night in front of the ministry.
The protesters demanding the resignation of Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Arayik Harutyunyan continue the sit-in on Friday.
The protest action was sparked by the minister’s proposed legislation to cut the subjects of Armenian language, literature and history from the mandatory curriculum of the country’s universities.
Speaking to reporters, ARF Youth Union member Argishti Gevorgyan said no official has stepped in to meet with them so far. “The sit-in proceeds normally. We haven’t seen the minister, he has been entering and leaving the ministry building from the back door since yesterday,” he said.
Argishti Gevorgyan said they plan to hold marches during the day.
