Armenia offers assistance to Iran after strong earthquake
Armenia’s Minister of Emergency Situations Feliks Tsolakyan held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Deputy Ambassador to Armenia Ali Mohammad Motaghi after a strong earthquake hit the country in the early hours on Friday.
The 5.9-magnitude quake, which struck about 120 kilometres (75 miles) southeast of the city of Tabriz, in Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province, killed at least 5 people and injured 120.
The jolts measuring magnitude 3-4 were also felt in several towns in Armenia, as well as in capital Yerevan.
During the phone call, the emergencies minister offered his condolences to the families of those killed in the disaster, wishing speedy recovery to the injured.
He also proposed dispatching rescuers to the disaster area, as well as providing other necessary aid to the quake-affected population of Iran.
