Arsen Babayan: I have been unlawfully arrested for 22 days
The former deputy chief of the Armenian parliament staff, Arsen Babayan has already left the Vardashen Penitentiary.
Babayan, who was arrested on 21 October, is accused of involvement in a “usurpation of power” resulting in Hrayr Tovmasyan’s appointment as Constitutional Court chairman in 2018.
The ex-official was released on Tuesday after President of the Helsinki Committee of Armenia Avetik Ishkhanyan and MP Sisak Gabrielyan offered personal guarantees for his release on a bail of 500,000 drams per each of them.
Speaking to reporters outside the penitentiary, Babayan said he is in good health, but refused to comment on the criminal proceedings against him at the moment.
“I have been placed under unlawful arrest for 22 days,” he said, promising to discuss the matter thoroughly later.
