Former parliament staffer urges end to ‘lawlessness’ in Armenia
A former senior staffer of the Armenian National Assembly, who was released on Tuesday pending investigation and trial, expressed gratitude to those who supported him and his family during what he described was an ‘unlawful arrest’.
Arsen Babayan, who served as deputy chief of the Armenian parliament staff, was arrested on 21 October after being accused of involvement in a “usurpation of power” which resulted in Hrayr Tovmasyan’s appointment as Constitutional Court chairman in 2018.
In a post on Facebook, Babayan said despite being too tired he could not reject an offer to give an interview to Armnews TV channel, since ‘a lot has been piled up to say these days.’
Addressing reporters, the ex-official said he would have numerous opportunities to speak up and answer their questions in the near future.
“I shall take any lawful step to prove my innocence and will stand by any citizen of Armenia facing legal wrongdoing.
“Lawlessness existing in Armenia must end,” he stressed.
Babayan also shared the link of his interview to the TV channel on Facebook.
