Armenian politician: Stalled Karabakh talks may increase risk of war
Armenian politician Aghvan Vardanyan stressed the need to develop one or two clear-cut agenda which would consolidate the public around it.
Speaking at a conference of the Vernatun public-political club on Friday, the politician said today there are some 5-7 different political and social groups that share the same concerns, but the question is whether they will be able to find the golden mean in the common unified agenda.
Speaking about the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, Vardanyan expressed concerns over the concessions Armenia recorded and the absence of clear peace talks.
“The stalled negotiations may increase the risk of a war,” he stressed.
The politician also voiced concerns over the contradictory statements on the Karabakh conflict make now and one year ago.
He next decried ‘strong pressures’ exerted on the judicial system, adding the mechanisms used by Armenian courts today are reminiscent of the practice of the Middle Ages.
“I believe Armenia is not a law-abiding country today. What is being done against courts in some cases and against the Constitutional Court makes it obvious that there is no rule of law in the country,” he noted.
