MPs electing members of the Anticorruption Committee
MPs at Armenian parliament are electing members of the Anticorruption Committee that will be established as part of the country’s new Anti-Corruption Strategy. The cabinet has nominated Lilit Aleksanyan as its candidate for a seat at the committee. The ruling My Step faction has nominated Edgar Shatiryan, while Narek Hambardzumyan and Haykuhi Harutyunyan are nominated by Prosperous Armenia and Bright Armenia factions respectively. The Supreme Judicial Council’s candidate is Aramayis Pashinyan.
It is envisaged that the new Committe will operate in 2021 as a single body of jurisdiction for the detection and investigation of corruption offenses. Several investigative departments will merge and form three investigative authorities by 2021: the Investigative Committee, the Special Investigative Service, and the Anticorruption Committee. The latter will be the main specialized body to investigate corruption-related crimes.
