Eduard Topchjan: We need to think seriously about our education system
“When I meet Armenians among my students, I immediately feel it: the genes are different, they are talented. I feel the difference,” violinist Suren Hakhnazaryan, a professor at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, told a news conference in Yerevan on Wednesday.
His son, renowned cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan believes a very good generation full of talented young men who have great potential is growing up in Armenia.
According to principal conductor and artistic director of the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, Eduard Topchjan, the talent is always there, but the potential must be developed, which requires quality education.
“We need to think seriously about our education system. I've always stated this and continue to state. I don't know who should think about it, but I think the score is 9-1 in the education system as well,” he said, referring to the 9-1 away defeat of the Armenian national football team to Italy in the final Euro 2020 qualifier.
The maestro praised the fact that there are many good and successful Armenian musicians and singers all over the world who have received their education abroad, but in Armenia everything is "at risk".
“A person should be professional in everything. Now it’s more customary to talk. But all this will take us to nowhere. We will probably lose a few decades until we realize this. Instead, we just talk, conduct PR campaigns.
“True patriotism consists in thinking about the future today,” the conductor stressed.
