Opposition MP says no Constitutional Court member can be forced into early retirement
The Prosperous Armenia opposition parliamentary faction has not yet held debates on the draft law on early retirement of the Constitutional Court members passed by the government, MP Iveta Tonoyan told a briefing in the National Assembly on Wednesday.
“The rush in this matter is more than strange to me. I do not understand how pressing this issue is to be subjected to hasty debates,” the MP said.
As for the consequences of the new measure, she expressed conviction that no Constitutional Court judge can be forced into early retirement. “All processes must take place in conformity with the law. The justice minister’s claim that this is aimed at handling the issue of the integrity of judges is also incomprehensible to me,” she said.
Asked to comment on the draft state budget for 2020, another Prosperous Armenia lawmaker Artyom Tsarukyan said: "We have made it clear why we have a negative stance on the 2020 budget. We have touched upon from point to point all the sectors we are concerned about."
According to him, they have repeatedly stated that the 2020 draft state budget has nothing to do with the economic revolution.
"Our position is solely based on the factor mentioned by my colleague,” Iveta Tonoyan added.
