Yerevan Zoo has acting director
Deputy Mayor of Yerevan Tigran Virabyan introduced the newly appointed acting director of the Yerevan Zoo, Vladimir Simonyan, to the zoo personnel. Simonyan previously served as deputy director of the zoo, the city hall reported.
Virabyan stressed that the zoo is today facing a number of priority issues that need to be resolved till next year. In particular, they concern the fencing of the area and the zoo security. The issue of health insurance for the zoo employees is also on the agenda of the municipality.
He assured no drastic changes are expected in the zoo staff. “Only those people who are engaged in purchase and sales of animals or pursue other interests cannot be part of this team,” he stressed.
The deputy mayor also noted that zoologist Iman Memarian has been invited to Armenia from Iran to soon assume the office of the deputy director of Yerevan Zoo. He has headed the Tehran Zoo for many years.
