Ex-Armenian MP put into Russian custody for 40 days
A Russian court ruled to remand former Armenian lawmaker Levon Sargsyan into custody for 40 days, the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office reported.
The Armenian law enforcement agency had requested the Russian authorities to extradite Sargsyan.
The Russian court granted a motion filed by the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office to place the former Armenian MP under arrest to discuss his extradition.
Levon Sargsyan, who is charged with organizing an armed robbery in Yerevan, was tracked down and detained in the Russian city of Zelenograd on Thursday as a result of large-scale joint investigative actions taken by Armenian and Russian law-enforcement agencies, police said.
The ex-lawmaker has been wanted by Armenian authorities since October 1, 2018.
He held a seat in the National Assembly from 1999-2012.
