Armenian deputy PM says talks over Russian gas price continue
Negotiations on the price of Russian natural gas supplied to Armenia continue, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan told reporters on Thursday, adding the Armenian government is doing its best to prevent the possible increase from becoming a burden or problematic for both ordinary consumers and the county’s economy.
The official said the format of the talks is trilateral, involving Armenia, Russia and Gazprom company.
Asked whether Armenia is negotiating to purchase gas from other countries, the deputy prime minister said that the talks and discussions are multilateral and that any opportunity should be assessed and considered.
As for the possible increase in the gas tariffs after April 1, 2020, Mher Grigoryan restated that the negotiations are underway and no further comments on the matter can be made at the moment.
He stressed the statement that the gas price will not rise until April 1 does not necessarily mean that an increase is expected afterwards. “There are issues that still need to be clarified,” he added.
