Expert: Decision to open Armenian embassy in Israel sent positive signal to Jewish organizations in Washington
The Armenian government’s decision to open an embassy in Israel contributed to the passage of a resolution recognizing the 1915 Armenian Genocide in the US House of Representatives, political scientist Suren Sargsyan stated.
“I don’t know whether you noticed it or not but the decision to open an Armenian embassy in Israel sent an addition positive signal to Jewish organizations in Washington for them not to obstruct the passage of the Armenian Genocide resolution,” the expert said in a Facebook post.
Jewish organizations were reportedly among the supporters of the Armenian Genocide resolution in the US House.
The resolution passed the House of Representatives in a 405-11 vote on 29 October.
The genocide bill has twice been blocked in the Senate.
