Legendary intelligence officer Gohar Vartanian to be buried in Moscow
Legendary Armenian-born Soviet intelligence officer Gohar Vartanian will be buried in Moscow, RIA Novosti reported.
She died on Monday, November 25, at the age of 93.
Gohar Vartanian will be laid to eternal rest next to his husband, renowned spy Gevork Vartanian, at the Troyekurovskoye Cemetery.
Gohar Vartanian was companion in arms with her prominent husband for 45 years of service.
She was born in 1926 in Gyumri. In the early 1930s, her family moved to Iran. At age 16, she entered her future husband Gevork Vartanian’s anti-fascist group leading an active intelligence work. She participated in thwarting Operation Long Jump, concocted by Adolf Hitler, headed by Ernst Kaltenbrunner, and led by Otto Skorzeny, which was an attempt to assassinate Stalin, Churchill, and Roosevelt at the Tehran conference in 1943.
The couple worked as intelligence agents in several countries between the early 1950s and 1986.
