Turkey says purchase date for new S-400 Russian missiles is a ‘purely technical matter’
The acquisition by Turkey of Russian anti-aircraft systems S-400 will strengthen the defense capacity of the Atlantic Alliance, said the member of the council for security and foreign policy of the cabinet of Turkish President Ismail Safi, according to Sputnik news agency report.
A senior representative of the US Administration announced that the leaders of the Atlantic Alliance will again remind Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the London summit (December 3 and 4) that the use of the S-400 is incompatible with the status of a NATO member.
As the source reminded Erdogan in his turn announced that the search for the elimination of divergences on this issue with the US will continue until April 2020. Safi said that Turkey's acquisition date of the second S-400 regiment is a "purely technical matter."
According to Sputnik, the general director of the largest Russian arms exporter, the Rosoboronexport company, Alexandr Mijeev, the signing of the new contract for the acquisition of anti-aircraft systems will take place in the first half of 2020.
The supplies of the latest Russian S-400 anti-aircraft systems to Turkey began in mid-July, according to Erdogan these systems will be put into operational service in April 2020.
