Tsarukyan slams early retirement offered to Constitutional Court judges as ‘absurd’
The Prosperous Armenia opposition faction in the Armenian parliament will vote against the government-drafted bill on the early retirement of the Constitutional Court judges, its head Gagik Tsarukyan told reporters at the National Assembly.
“It’s absurd when a person is factually not accused of any wrongdoing, but is, in turn, offered money to use doing a job,” he said.
According to the lawmaker, if a person is not fit for the job, he should be fired rather than offered to retire. "Such a proposal is not acceptable in the world, it’s inappropriate,” he said.
Addressing the government’s arguments that the measure is aimed at solving the crisis in the Constitutional Court, Tsarukyan urged the authorities to substantiate their claims.
“But there is no such thing. We don't know what the problem is. A person gets paid pension or salary without working. We will not support it,” he said, stressing the authors of the measure should realize that they will be held accountable for it in the future.
