FC Pyunik nominates Arsen Aghajanyan as FFA president
Football Club Pyunik has nominated Arsen Aghajanyan as president of the Football Federation of Armenia (FFA).
"Dear football fans, we would like to inform that our club has nominated Arsen Aghajanyan as FFA president in the elections to be held on 23 December. We would like to clarify why we have chosen Mr. Aghajanyan. In his statement FC Pyunik owner Artur Soghomonyan noted that the new president of the Football Federation shouldn’t be connected with any club of the Armenian championship.
Besides, we emphasize the fact that the new president must be a person dedicated to football, who wants to make fundamental changes in our football and do everything to rehabilitate it. According to FC Pyunik Arsen Aghajanyan completely meets all of these criteria. He is a successful businessman, has lived in Russia and Cyprus for many years, has made systematic changes in all the areas he has led, enjoys a good reputation in business circles of many countries, has carried out and carries out dozens of educational, social and sports projects in Armenia or is a participant to such projects.
Mr. Aghajanyan is a doctor of historical sciences, a film director and screenwriter of feature films that were rewarded in prestigious film festivals. During these years Arsen Aghajanyan has always provided financial assistance to his homeland, financed youth teams in Armenia, in particular, he sponsored the football team of the “Tsaghkunk Open School” foundation for nearly 8 years (creation of a football pitch, coach salary, outfit and other things). For years A. Aghajanyan has contributed to the development of football in Armenian communities.
He was the founder and sponsor of Football Club Ararat in Cyprus, as well as a friend and the sponsor of Armenian youth football clubs in different regions of Russia.
Years ago Arsen Aghajanyan wanted to create a football club in Armenia too, but the football reality of those years was not favorable for that project to carry out. Several months ago Arsen returned to Armenia with his large family to settle down permanently in homeland and continued implementing his projects for the benefit of society with greater enthusiasm.
Football Club Pyunik sees in Arsen Aghajanyan an independent, full of innovative ideas, honest, hard working, and therefore worthy candidate for the FFA president. We believe that the story written on a new page and by new people will also mark the rise of Armenian football," reads a statement released by the club on Tuesday.
Artur Vanetsyan stepped down as FFA president after the national football team suffered the biggest defeat in its history losing to Italy 9-1 in the last Euro 2020 qualifier on 19 November.
