SIS brought charges against former president Serzh Sargsyan
Armenia’s Special Investigation Service has brought charges against the country’s former President Serzh Sarkisian, according to the released statement of the investigative body on Wednesday.
The charges are brought according to Article 38-179 Part 3, Point 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia which is organizing embezzlement of large scale amounts along with a group of other officials through misuse of official position.
The opened case refers to the period of January 25 to February 5 of the year 2013 and is about financial abuses amounting for 489 million AMD allegedly committed by Sargsyan along with other officials. The charges relate to a fuel supply tender within a state programme in which cabinet had approved a decision to grant the supply right to a company which had offered higher price for the service, thus inflicting financial loss to the state budget.
Signature on not leaving the country has been chosen as a preventive measure for Serzh Sargsyan.
