Mnatsakanyan-Mammadyarov meeting: Armenian FM reiterates need for Artsakh’s involvement in peace talks
Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Elmar Mammadyarov met in Bratislava on Wednesday, December 4, on the margins of the 26th OSCE Ministerial Council.
The meeting took place with mediation and participation of OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs Igor Popov (Russia), Stéphane Visconti (France) and Andrew Shoffer (US), as well as Personal Representative of OSCE Chairperson-in-Office Andrzej Kasprzyk, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a press release.
During the meeting the officials discussed the plans for reinforcing the ceasefire, taking confidence-building measures and resuming the joint work in early 2020.
The Armenian FM highlighted the modest result achieved in the framework of the arrangements for preparing peoples for peace through the implementation of a program of exchange of reporters from Armenia, Artsakh and Azerbaijan.
In this context, the parties weighted in on the possibility of continuing direct contacts of this kind between the two nations. At the same time, the importance of introducing other confidence-building measures was emphasized.
Touching upon the meeting with the Artsakh foreign minister in Yerevan, Mnatsakanyan reiterated the need for direct involvement of the Artsakh authorities in the peace talks, especially regarding the content issues of the conflict settlement.
